Virginia Walker Yoga & Doula

Virginia offers prenatal and postnatal yoga, birth preparation classes, birth biomechanics workshops, reiki and she’s also an experienced doula. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

I met Virginia when I was 17 weeks pregnant, I’d signed up for a prenatal yoga class with no idea what to expect. Virginia was welcoming and warm, and after my first class I was absolutely hooked; it was a truly magical experience. The lights were low, the lighting was calming and the vibe was pure zen.

Preparing for a Peaceful Birth

Looking back, I credit Virginia for how peaceful my birth was; everything she taught me left me feeling empowered, in control and capable. Each week in the yoga sessions we worked on breathing techniques, affirmations, how to work with the body rather than against it, and learning to trust your body and your baby.

Birth Preparation Class

I also took part in a birth preparation class (think NCT, but better), where we learned about the physiological elements of birth, what to expect in each stage, and how we can support the body to do what it needs to do. I was also doing an online hypnobirthing class, and Virginia’s teachings (though not specifically hypnobirthing) definitely echoed everything I was learning with the Positive Birth Co. We learned about all the tools available to us in the hospital such as peanut balls and birthing pools and most importantly, how to best advocate for the birth you want in the hospital (and how your partner can help with this) – which turned out to be vital for my own birth.

Biomechanics of Birth Class

As I approached my due date, my partner and I had a session on the biomechanics of birth with Virginia. We learned about counter pressure, various techniques for creating as much space as possible for baby, what positions to use during each stage of labour and even how to support baby to get into the best position for birth.

I had an incredibly peaceful birth with no pain relief, and this is definitely thanks to Virginia – I can’t recommend her enough.

Virginia also offers a doula service, postnatal yoga and reiki – you can find out more here.
